In our city, almost all of us celebrate the fishing war.
ReplyDeleteThis is celebrated on 13th July and is like a competicion where anyone can be a fisher and try to fish the biggest fish. The person who fish the biggest fish of the competicion recive a crown and the tittle of "master of the sea".
In the night, all people cook all the fish together, talk and dance like a party.
Our city creates this celebration to remember the city past, because in that time, we are a city of fishers.
Hi my name is André, and today I’m writing about a tradition in my native city, Ovar. This tradition is called “Benções do Mar”.
ReplyDeleteThis tradition happens a week after carnival. Here we have this faces provided by the city, everyone paints them and hang them in their homes, after carnival we rope them together. After that, we throw them in the sea, to see if the summer will be rainy. If they sink it will rain a lot, but if they float, it won’t rain at all during the summer.
I think it’s a marvellous tradition but I don’t believe in it, because we can’t predict if it will rain in four months.
Hi my name is Tomás and today im gonna talk about a família tradicion which is family lunch/dinner
ReplyDeleteEvery year on the last sunday of August, my grandma invites all family to get house for dinner. Its also a tradition to eat either leitão or bacalhau a casa. Dinner is followed up by the local party from Torrão do Lameiro
This family meetup is good for having fun, enjoying some good food and most importantly get the family closer together
Hi, I'm Pedro and l'm going to talk about S.Pedro’s day. This tradition happens every spring on June 1st when school is about to end. Basically a stage is set on Parque Urbano in ovar and every person in the city can participate.
ReplyDeleteThis event is a bit like a talent show. Anyone that feels like they have a talent or if they're good at something can go on the stage and perform.
Everyone that didn’t participate has to take some food
and all around the park there are tables full of food.
The winner of the talent show wins a car!
This is a
Great day to have fun and all
The city to be together and create bonds.
Hi!
ReplyDeleteMy name is Margarida and today I’m going to present you the tradition that I have with my friends.
Every year I reunite with my friends from my last school and we do a Christmas pyjama’s party where we brought typical food of that date, made activities and see films that are out in that season.
Normally, this party happens in Iara’s house (my friend from colégio dos carvalhos) and we are like five girls in one house. (me, Iara, Leonor, Ema, Sofia).
You could imagine how much noise and trouble we made? So…
I really for a great time when I’m with them, because it feels like our friendship never changes (oh… I forgot to say but we don’t see us for months) and I really enjoy their company!
Furadouro's Sardine festival
ReplyDeleteEvery year, on 1st of August everyone that lives in Furadouro have dinner together at the local market. We bring our own things, more exactly drinks, games, lots of fun, empathy and the most important thing on the festival, sardines. The goal of this festival is to get everyone together and socialize in order to create a family" and for any need, you can ask someone and with that everyone would be friends.
While we are having dinner, there are lots of fun, music and laughs and that's when you know that the festival is going well. There are lots of entertainment for the kids like football games, dance challenges and an acrobatic challenge, thats the most important because you can win a prize.
This festival have already created very friendships and will continue to create.
Hi guys, my name is Leonor Maia and today i’m meriting about a tradition worldwide known, especially around girls.
ReplyDeleteThis tradition is known because af the movie “Mean Girls” and it happens all around the world on october 3rd. This tradition is because in the movie there’s a viral audio where Cady is talking about Aaron and she says: “On october 3rd he asked me what day it was, it’s october 3rd I said”. This audio became viral and every year thousands of people reuse it, on tiktok, and most of them end up rewatching the whole movie just because of that scene.
In my opinion it’s a funny tradition, because most girls end up doing a little sleep over with friends to rewatch Mean Girls and because most girls know the meaning behind the videos and boys usually don’t, so most of them are confused.
Hi!
ReplyDeleteI'm Ivan and today I'll tell you about the celebrations we do in Portugal. I will give you an example, that in this case will be one of my favourite holidays, the 25th of April. I chose 25th of April because it was when a "protest" occured in Portugal, the goal of this revolution was to end the dictating government of António de Oliveira Salazar.
It was very peaceful, instead of using bullets and aggression we used "cravos". Nowadays we celebrate it by honoring the soldiers of the 25th of April 1974.
I personally think that this holiday is very important for the history of Portugal, and shows how peaceful and brave the portuguese people were and are.
Hi I’m Carolina and I’m going to write about a tradition from Açores “Menino mija”.
ReplyDeleteThis tradition happens in a christmas season between the 24 of December and 6 of January. People go to friends houses door to door to share food and spend time together. What makes it unique is that in this date people are kinde and open to recive others in their houses and forgive what happen in the past. I love this tradition because unite people and you’re able to spend time with people you love.
Hi!My name is Gabriel Silva and today I'm going to introduce a new tradition that I created and developed.

This tradition is mainly for students and it's about reuniting with the people you hangout during the summer and celebrate the memories and the funny things you did.
This tradition is very good to wnd summer and start school in a happy way.

ReplyDeleteHi, everyone! I’m Leonor and today I’m gonna tell you about “Cebolada”. It’s a festivity that happens more than one time per year which consists in a hang out of my very-specific friend group- some of those friends aren’t even the ones I usually hang out with- they are Cebolada friends.
ReplyDeleteIt happens always during the many school breaks we have, even when their duration is just four or five days. We have “Cebolada Natalícia” which happens in winter break, and “Cebolada Pascoal” which is near Easter, in spring break. It’s always at one of our homes and I have already hosted two of them. The goal is to gather this specific group in order to celebrate our friendship bond. It’s called “Cebolada” because we have lunch and it’s always pasta alla bolognese and, in the first one, we put too much onion. In this gathering, we just eat lunch, play card and board games, and, for dessert, there’s sometimes Pão de ló de Ovar!
I love Cebolada and I wish we had it every week! ☹️ What makes it unique is those friends only hang out with when it’s Cebolada.
ReplyDeleteHello! I’m Matilde, I’m Portuguese and today I’m talking about a celebration that's present every year of my life since I was a kid.
Since I remembar, I go to “S. João”. It's a festivity that occurs mainly in the region of Porto. It falls in the night of the 23rd to the 24th of June. It's celebrated the saint João and usually the city is decorated in many ways. People go out in the streets with their plastic hammer to hit other people's head (as a joke). There is a lot of traditional music, and my favorite part, the hot balloons covering the sky at night, which for me is the most outstanding
feature of the “S. João”.
For me "S. João" has my heart, especially when it gathers people from all around the city since it's a tradition that has lasted for many years!

ReplyDeleteHi, I’m Beatriz and I’m going to talk about a celebration that doesn’t exist yet.
ReplyDeleteIt would be at Furadouro Beach but we would celebrate the diversity of our country. The idea is that each family would bring a typical dish and people from the islands could bring sweets from there. During the day there would be music and typical dances. And also games about different places. At the end, people would eat together and release lanterns to the sky.
The celebration hasn’t a name yet, but I take suggestions.
Maria Beatriz, 11CTB

Hello, My name is Gonçalo, I' m 16 years old and I' m from Portugal.
ReplyDeleteI wish us portuguese, had a holiday to celebrate our interculturality, and it would be called "the immigrant day". For celebrating this day, the portuguese people would try to embrace with the culture of people that came from foreign countries, for that, the people from abroad would create workshops about their country' s gastronomy and traditions, with the main objective of giving the portuguese a opportunity to learn more about their cultures.
I think this celebration would be very importante for our country because, we would get along with the peoe from other countries and even getting to know their original traditions.

Every second weekend of September there is a Fest in Furadouro, called "Festas Do Mar". Once in 1916, at "Festas Do Mar" , in the middle of a Quim Barreiros concert, a guy started singing Britney Spears' "Baby One More Time". Right after, everyone was singing it, even Quim Barreiros. In the middle of the chant, someone opened a circle and everyone was moshing into it while singing
ReplyDeleteTill this days, every second saturday of September, everyone in Portugal comes to "Festas Do Mar" to go to the Britney Spears' mosh, the biggest mosh of the world . Everyone that doesn't mosh, will be haunted by Britney. Rumors say that she appears under the bed of those who are haunted, in the middle of night.
This tradition has the objective of gathering everyone from Portugal in the same place, to share the love of moshing.
